The DYC wants to ensure that all young people from our diocese be offered opportunities to experience, live, explore and celebrate their faith in meaningful ways. We hope to do this by supporting and resourcing faith centred events at diocesan and parish level.

"Year of Faith" Youth Pilgrimage 2013

alt

May 12th will see the Diocesan Youth Council together with the youth of the diocese begin its assent of Croagh Patrick. Registration for the pilgrimage will take place at the foot of the mountain from 11am onwards. It is hoped that everyone who joins us will be present for mass at the summit at 1pm. It takes about 1hour 20minutes to climb - if you feel you are of average fitness.  Try and pace yourself accordingly as the top can be very cold if you reach it too early and have to wait about til mass begins.

There will be a bbq in Murrisk afterwards for all who participated in any way.

  • Suncream - for the wind factor

Tóchar Phádraig Pilgrim Walk

Stage 2: Aughagower to Croagh Patrick

Each year the DYC together with all of the parishes in the diocese invites our young people to take part in its three stage pilgrimage.  Through wind, snow, rain and sunshine we journey together along the Tóchar Phádraig.  This is a 22 mile walk from Ballintubber to Croagh Patrick.  Although we complete just half of that walk on our first stage it is often the journey with others and the real and easy connection between God and nature that brings the Spirit to life.  However we have been known to have had several occasions that "Thanks be to God" was somewhat reluctantly said as the only permissable response to finding yourself knee deep in muck and bogholes!  To say it is a worthwhile experience for the heart, mind and spirit is an understatement.  It is only when you try it for yourself that you can put words on what captivates your very soul.

If you feel like coming along you are more than welcome.  Our next gathering is on March 9th 2013 at 10.45am in Aughagower, to begin stage two of the walk.  Essentials are good walking boots/shoes that will get muddy from time to time and a packed lunch.  If you need any futher information contact Trish O'Brien 093 52284
